Hello Grade One and Grade Two Families,

Here is our learning plan for today!

Daily work booklets Thursday page for Math and LA – (in the classroom we start our day with this foundational practice. I provide as much reading support and answer any questions needed for students to understand the concepts and then we go over them together as a class. Please encourage your child to be as independent as they can with these booklets daily and go over them together to make any corrections or clarify any misunderstandings). *When we don’t have Friday school in the classroom, we complete the Friday pages on Thursday too!

Language Arts:
•Poetry – I Want to be a Carpenter – Students have a copy of the poem I Want to Be a Carpenter in their package. I will read it through with them as a class during our google meet and discuss meaning. Afterwards, their job is to illustrate the poem in a way that shows the meaning and then practice reading the poem (we aim for about 10 times in the classroom). Our focus with reading poetry is reading for fluency (fluent readers sound like they’re talking – the words flow and have appropriate expression and tone). We also often underline sight words and circle rhymes on our page. They can write on the front and back of the page any way they want that makes sense, but we are careful not to obscure the words.
•After, listen, read, and complete the quiz for at least one book on Level Up on RAZ Kids
•Go to Google classroom for Mrs. Webb’s book of the day. (I will post this as soon as it is available).

Math:
•Go to Google classroom to watch any of the math videos you missed earlier this week (just scroll down to see previous day’s posts – feel free to check out both grade levels if you’d like)
•Continue working on your addition station, subtraction station, and problem-solving booklets. Students should complete at least one page from each daily and are encouraged to do more if they can. Aim for about 30 minutes of pencil/paper math work each day, either in one sitting or split up over 2 15-minute sessions (students are all at different places in these booklets and will work at significantly varying paces and some pages are easier or harder than others. If your child has a solid grasp on the concept they are working on and completes their pages very quickly, they should do a bit more. Likewise, if they are at a particularly challenging page, they may not complete it in one sitting. Please use your best judgement around what makes sense for your child and let me know if you have any questions).
•Go on Mathletics to complete the assigned tasks.

Music:
•I will post Mr. Hibberd’s music class from yesterday on Google classroom in case you’d like to watch it:)

Social Studies:
Grade 1 and Grade 2 – Go to Google classroom to hear Mrs. Gouin read the traditional Inuit story, The Walrus and the Caribou.

Thank you again for all your hard work and support of our learning these past weeks at home. I am very much looking forward to being back in the classroom with students on Tuesday morning. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or need any assistance.
