Hello Grade One and Grade Two Families,

Here is our learning plan for today!

Daily work booklets Monday page for Math and LA – (in the classroom we start our day with this foundational practice. I provide as much reading support and answer any questions needed for students to understand the concepts and then we go over them together as a class. Please encourage your child to be as independent as they can with these booklets daily and go over them together to make any corrections or clarify any misunderstandings).

Language Arts:
•Non – Fiction Writing – Go to Google classroom to watch a video of Mrs. Gouin reading about red pandas and then write about them! (there is lined writing paper in your child’s writing folder). Encourage ‘kid writing’ i.e., Making sure that all the sounds are shown with letters that make sense. (writers also think about spaces between their words, using punctuation and upper- and lower-case letters, tidy printing, adding interesting details, and rereading their work to make sure it makes sense). If you’d like to see red pandas in action, watch this short video of red pandas at a zoo.
•I have added a photo of our ‘No Excuses Words’ to the Parent Resources page above. Please go over your child’s writing with them to look for and fix spelling errors in these everyday words.
•After writing, listen, read, and complete the quiz for at least one book on Level Up on RAZ Kids
•Go to Google classroom for Mrs. Webb’s book of the day. (I will post this as soon as it is available).

Math:
•Go to Google classroom to watch Mrs. Gouin’s grade level math video for the day (feel free to watch both grades any time you’d like)😊
•Continue working on your addition station, subtraction station, and problem-solving booklets. Students should complete at least one page from each daily and are encouraged to do more if they can. Aim for about 30 minutes of pencil/paper math work each day, either in one sitting or split up over 2 15-minute sessions (students are all at different places in these booklets and will work at significantly varying paces and some pages are easier or harder than others. If your child has a solid grasp on the concept they are working on and completes their pages very quickly, they should do a bit more. Likewise, if they are at a particularly challenging page, they may not complete it in one sitting. Please use your best judgement around what makes sense for your child and let me know if you have any questions).
•Go on Mathletics to complete the assigned tasks.

Music:
•Go to Google classroom for Mr. Hibberd’s live music session at 11:25-11:55). This will also be recorded, and I will post the video if you’d like to view it at a different time.

Science:
RAZ Kids Assignments (Go to RAZ Kids and click on assignments):
•Grade ones have been assigned the book and quiz Let’s Build a Fairy Bridge
•Grade Twos have been assigned the book and quiz Does it Sink or Float?
*If your child did not complete last week’s RAZ Kids science book, it will still be there too.

Then,
Grade 1 Challenge – Can you build a bridge that spans at least 10 cm and holds weight using materials around your house (ie. Blocks, lego, paper/cardboard, other supplies around the house or things from your recycling bin…)
Grade 2 Challenge – Find and record (make a list or chart) at least 5 things around your house that float and at least 5 things around your house that sink.

Thank you for your hard work and support of our learning. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or need any assistance.
